Dead Rising (Completed)

Believe it or not, I don’t have any screenshots of this game. Then again, I probably don’t need any, as popular as this game is. You’ve likely seen it before. Look. I could go into the big long anecdote about hours of soda-infused midnight shenanigans I pulled off in this game with friends howling in laughter behind me. I could tell you how I’ve waited 10 years to finally own a copy, so I could finish the damn thing. But I’m not going to. I’m just going to tell you, that this was not and is not one of the best zombie games I’ve ever played. It was and is one of the best games I’ve ever played. And here is a laundry list why.

• You can throw mannequins
• You can suplex a zombie
• You can find yourself amidst up to 800 zombies at any one time
• You can cook
• You can drink chocolate milk
• You can play Poke’mon snap with zombies instead of Poke’mon
• You’ve covered wars, you know
• You can find a cult of yellow-rain-coat wearing women-kidnappers in the movie theater
• You can drive a motorcycle
• You can drive a shopping cart
• You can cut a zombie in half with a samurai sword
• You can try to cut a zombie in half with a toy foam Z-Saber sword from Megaman
• You can try on new men’s clothes
• You can try on new women’s clothes
• You can try on new children’s clothes (hair included)
• You can throw CDs at zombies in desperation
• You can save people
• You can let them die
• You can be a hero
• You can be an asshole
• You can care about the story
• You can not give a sh** about the story
• You can level up by grinding
• You can level up by not caring about grinding and doing random wacky things
• You can shoot Nerf Guns at zombies
• You can realize that guns are for sissies. Real men use trash cans and park benches.

This is all on the backdrop of a game that great level design, with amazing pacing. If you haven’t played this game yet, you really should. It’s an RPG. It’s a roguelike. It’s a zombie game. It’s an FPS game. It’s a Third-Person game. It’s an action flick. It’s a sandbox game. It’s friggin’ Dead Rising.
