Quick Tiering Update v.1

Just a quick and dirty Tiering update on some old titles based on the passage of time.

I recently flushed my Steam DNS. As a friendly warning,  it turns out that  doing so resets all the custom settings on your game categories, which in turn has led to a massive re-sorting on my part with my some 420 games (no, that’s not a 420 reference). As much as I’d like to think I’ve become a Savant at snapshot hour-long-tested game reviews, I have sadly had to come to terms that some of my initial Tier 1 impressions were wrong. Either I’ve continued to play the Tier 1’s and discovered that they weren’t as good as I originally thought, or even worse–some of them I haven’t even played at all, making it obvious to me that they were never even Tier 1 to begin with.

Beyond Divinity — Tier 2: After discovering that Divine Divinity was a repetitive mess, I haven’t had much of a desire to play its sequel. Tier 2 for now until I play it more and can make a better judgement call.

Anachronox — Tier 3: Big drop here from T1. I continued to play this and found that there’s just too little combat and far too much wandering around looking for the next thing that advances the story.

Day One: Gary’s Incident — Tier 4: This was originally put in the “Technical Issues” category, but a cursory check reveals that the game-breaking bugs have persisted, and the game has been removed from the Steam market.

Edge of Space — Tier 3: Originally pegged at Tier 1 with the supposition that good content is good content whether or not it’s finished but… I think I stopped just before I ran out of good content. I discovered more pieces of the game as I continued to play a bit longer, but they fell flat. Sadly, there’s just not enough good here to justify play.

FEZ — Tier 2: I think partially I had this listed as T1 out of guilt because Lepcis loved it. It’s still one of the best puzzle platformers I’ve ever played but… well look, I hate puzzle platformers.

Hitman: Absolution — Tier 2: I know I put this one in T1 because I was excited to play it but… I just haven’t played it yet. It still seems good, but it obviously isn’t as pressing as I thought.

LiEat — Tier 2: Same as Hitman above; seems like a nice game but I just haven’t had the desire to play it, so a drop from T1.

Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale — Tier 2: Again; was T1, but the passage of time without play drops it one tier.

Shadow Warrior (2013) — Tier 2: I’ve played this one quite a bit since slotting it in T1. It’s still a lot of fun, but only ever briefly do I glimpse what could be a T1 experience. It still comes recommended at T2.

Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II — Tier 2: Partially originally placed in T1 due to an admitted nostolgia factor, I just haven’t had any desire to actually play it. T2, with the lingering feeling that I should really play it at some point in the future.

Super Meat Boy — Tier 3: I dug this one out of Tier 4. It didn’t really deserve to be there and was only originally placed in the depths due to my extreme dislike of everything about the game. It’s not… unplayable though.
