Kingdom Come: Deliverance is pitched as a low fantasy RPG where you play as just “a guy” in medieval times. I’m not usually one to play such games, but Bannerlord (which I still think back to, despite the faults I pointed out) made me reconsider – after all, clawing your way up from serfdom sounded vaguely interesting. Sadly, what I got was yet another “cinematic” experience with frustrating gameplay – and I didn’t even get to the combat. I suppose my run of luck with good games had to end sometime.

Creating a believable and realistic speculative fiction world is a tough challenge. One false step and the whole facade falls apart.

Have I simply grown bored of puzzle games? Or is it that I value puzzle games less because I played so many for free (in Flash)?

I’m afraid I can’t exactly say what bored me about this game. Perhaps it was the level design that felt uninspired and generic. Perhaps it was the plot clichés and constant reminders that the “Main Character is so powerful.” Perhaps it’s because I just finished playing Dusk (and started a new run of Dark Souls). Whatever it was, it’s sad to think that after waiting 13-ish years to finish the fight that I may not be interested in doing so now that I have the chance.
